Documents you'll need

You must provide a passport or travel document. Your passport should be valid for the whole of your stay in the UK and contain a blank page for your visa.

You can supply the following to support your application:

  • details of the marriage or civil partnership and proof that you鈥檝e paid money for some of its costs
  • proof that you鈥檙e planning to get married in the UK, for example a booking confirmation or emails between you and the venue

You鈥檒l need to provide a certified translation of any documents that are not in English or Welsh.

If you鈥檝e been married before

You鈥檒l need to show proof that you鈥檙e free to marry or enter into a civil partnership again, for example a:

    You should get a decision within 3 weeks of your appointment.

    You might be able to pay an extra 拢500 for a decision within 5 working days or 拢1,000 for a decision within 24 hours (not including weekends or bank holidays). Check with your visa application centre.

    At your appointment you鈥檒l have your fingerprints and photograph (鈥榖iometric information鈥�) taken.

    After your appointment you'll be told when a decision has been made about your visa.

    Keep the documents that prove why you're visiting the UK in your hand luggage so you can show them if asked.
