AI skills
Civil servants can access on Civil Service Learning. These include an introduction to AI, courses on a range of AI technologies, guidance on the business value of AI and ethics, and a technical curriculum leading to qualifications.

AI Playbook
The playbook offers guidance on using AI safely, effectively and securely if you鈥檙e a civil servant or you work in a public sector organisation.聽
It includes 10 principles civil servants should uphold when using AI. It explains what AI is 鈥撀爄ncluding its capabilities, limitations and risks 鈥� and how to select, buy and deploy AI in government.
AI Insights
This series complements the AI Playbook and its by focusing on technical topics that were not discussed in detail in the playbook. It explains the terminology and concepts around AI and machine learning (ML), and provides practical advice on how to implement AI solutions in the public sector.
New AI Insights articles are published bimonthly and include blogs, shorter spotlight articles and case studies.
AI community of practice
The cross-government AI community meets monthly. It provides a place for people interested in AI to share their experiences, and learn from speakers both inside and outside government on topics including AI ethics, security and emerging uses of AI technologies.聽
Currently, to join this community you must work in a government department or the NHS, or have a 188体育 email address. However, if you work in an academic institution, private sector organisation or other local government association, you can express your interest in presenting at our events or invite the AI community team to present at your events.
Microsoft 365 Copilot Experiment
Microsoft 365 Copilot is an AI-powered assistant integrated into Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. This report presents the findings of a large cross-government experiment led by the Government Digital Service between September and December 2024.
The experiment involved 20,000 government employees from 12 organisations. It evaluated whether AI assistants could improve user satisfaction at work, improve the quality of tasks and reduce the time required to complete tasks.
