The British High Commission in Wellington maintains and develops relations between the UK and New Zealand.

Our offices in Wellington and Auckland work together to support the full range of British interests in New Zealand. These include building Britain鈥檚 prosperity through increased trade and investment in open markets and supporting British nationals through our consular services, answering over 3,000 enquiries each year.

Getting help

If you cannot get the support you need from local services, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) can help British people abroad.

We prioritise emergencies and people who are vulnerable, for example, if someone鈥檚:

  • ill, injured, or involved in a crime
  • with a British person who鈥檚 died

Get an emergency travel document

You can apply for an emergency travel document if you鈥檙e abroad and your passport has been lost or stolen, damaged or expired, and you can鈥檛 get a new or replacement passport in time to travel.

If the person needing the emergency travel document is under 16, a parent or guardian should apply on their behalf.

Notarial services

Our high commission cannot carry out notarial acts under the Commissioner of Oaths Act 1889, or on instruction from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in London.
