1. Full and provisional driving licence applications

If you鈥檝e already made an online driving licence application you can track its progress.

This guide is also available in Welsh (Cymraeg).

You鈥檒l need your 14-digit application reference number. This was emailed to you after you applied.

You鈥檒l normally get your driving licence within a week of completing your online application.

If your reference number does not have 14 digits

You鈥檒l need to use different services to track:

2. Provisional licence applications with an 鈥楩P鈥� reference number

If you鈥檝e already made an online provisional driving licence application you can use this service to:

  • check the progress of your application
  • upload a new signature
  • change your contact details

Track and manage your application

You鈥檒l need to provide:

  • your application reference number - this was emailed to you after you applied, and will start with 鈥楩P鈥� followed by 10 letters (for example, FPAB-ABCD-ABCD)
  • addresses where you鈥檝e lived over the last 3 years
  • your National Insurance number
  • your UK passport number

You鈥檒l normally get your licence one week after you applied online. It may take longer if DVLA needs to make additional checks.

If your reference number does not start with 鈥楩P鈥�

You鈥檒l need to use different services to track:

3. Applications to renew a 10 year old photocard licence with a 'TY' reference number

If you鈥檝e already applied to renew your licence you can use this service to:

  • track its progress
  • upload a new photo or use your passport photo

You鈥檒l need your application reference. This was emailed to you after you applied. It鈥檒l be 10 digits long, starting with 鈥楾Y鈥�.

You鈥檒l normally get your driving licence within a week of completing your online application.

If your reference number does not start with 鈥楾Y鈥�

You鈥檒l need to use different services to track:
