Abstract

This study on the role of organizations like the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in the development of the rural non-farm (RNF) sector in Bangladesh, examines: the role of the LGED as an organization in developing the rural infrastructure and hence promoting the growth of the rural non-farm sector; and the factors behind the LGED's success in emerging as a key institution in Bangladesh for the development of the RNF sector.
