Reviewing the CLP鈥檚 Approach to Measuring Women鈥檚 Empowerment

Abstract

The Chars Livelihoods Programme (CLP) works with extreme poor households living on island chars in North West Bangladesh. The CLP鈥檚 package of interventions includes components directly targeted at improving women鈥檚 empowerment. Social development groups, couples orientations and the choice of women as the recipients of the asset transfer project are components of the CLP designed to impact upon the empowerment of women. This brief considers the approach used to measure women's empowerment, in order to monitor the impact of the CLP.
