Abstract
The UK Government and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), acting as co-chairs, launched the Political Champions Group in 2012 to bring greater political focus and investment to building disaster resilience. Part of the Group鈥檚 interest lies in improving understanding of how to stimulate the private sector鈥檚 engagement and what course of action can best deliver this.
This study explores how public finance can be better used to stimulate private sector engagement in building disaster resilience and preparedness for the risks posed by natural catastrophes and climate change. There were a number of opportunities that emerged from the country case studies (focusing on Bangladesh, Kenya, Mozambique and Pakistan) developed through this study. This report presents the four case studies, and appendices. The sets out the findings of the project 鈥楽timulating Private Sector Engagement in Building Disaster Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation鈥� and provides recommendations for public finance support.

The Adaptation Knowledge and Tools programme is a DFID-funded programme intended to maximise the effectiveness of UK and international investment in climate change adaptation and resilience. The knowledge and tools generated through this programme are expected to promote greater understanding of what constitutes best practice in adaptation, as well as better international cohesion and coordination around adaptation. Through these entry points the programme expects to increase the quality of international and UK adaptation programming and reduce its risk.
