Off-grid Appliance Performance Testing: Results and Trends for Early Stage Market Development
Current status, efficiency and cost trends of televisions, fans and refrigerators - the 3 appliances with the largest potential to scale
Abstract
Decision makers lack good market intelligence on high-quality, efficient, and off-grid appropriate appliances. This knowledge gap hinders their role in developing markets for distributed clean energy. In their latest article, Efficiency for Access Secretariat staff synthesise data from the Coalition鈥檚 new tool, Equip Data, and give readers a glimpse of the current status, efficiency and cost trends of televisions, fans and refrigerators鈥攖he top 3 appliances with the largest potential to scale.
Equip Data is an appliance performance database that contains a sampling of products from retail markets, distributors, and manufacturers. Analysis of platform data reveals a wide range of variation in product efficiency and slight improvements in both energy efficiency and affordability.
This work was supported by the UK Department for International Development as part of the 鈥楲ow Energy Inclusive Appliances鈥 (LEIA) programme.
