Abstract

The study estimates the carbon sequestration potential of activities under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment, Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), India鈥檚 flagship employment guarantee programme, contributing towards India鈥檚 international commitment on carbon sinks. The study is highly significant at this time, being in line with the Paris Climate Agreement reporting requirements under the Katowice Climate Package which recommends estimation and reporting of mitigation co-benefits of adaptation actions.

The Report was prepared by Prof N H Ravindranath and Dr Indu K Murthy, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, with technical support of Dr Jeremy Woods of Imperial College, London.
