Abstract

Often portrayed and recognised as 鈥渢he poorest of the poor鈥�, women bear a disproportionate burden of poverty and are one of the most marginalised and disadvantaged groups in society. In Bangladesh鈥檚 patriarchal society, female-headed households are particularly vulnerable. This briefing outlines the findings of a study comparing vulnerability and socioeconomic characteristics of male- and female-headed households selected for the second phase of the CLP.
