Children, Poverty and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
This article discusses challenges to achieving the SDGs, with a particular focus on children growing up in poorer countries
Abstract
This article first outlines what the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are, and key differences from the predecessor Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Next, the article sets the goals in the context of a changing world which poses particular challenges for children and young people. The review then discusses key challenges to achieving the SDGs, with a particular focus on children growing up in low- and middle-income countries, rather than in higher income OECD countries.
This study is part of Young Lives, an international study of childhood poverty, following the lives of 12,000 children in 4 countries (Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam) over 15 years. Young Lives is funded by the UK Department for International Development
