Abstract

This report details the findings of a study on Kenya鈥檚 preparedness for floods, drought and disease outbreaks 鈥� human and animal. It looks at preparedness at the national and subnational level focusing on Mandera and Migori counties. The authors assess preparedness under different frameworks:

  • governance and legal
  • preparedness capacity
  • linkages to international processes of disaster preparedness
  • financial allocations to preparedness.

The report presents case studies on disaster preparedness at the county level. Mandera County is classified as arid and semi-arid and is prone to droughts. Migori is prone to floods.
