Renew your registered design
You must renew your design registration on its fifth anniversary. You鈥檒l then need to renew every 5 years up to a maximum of 25 years.
You鈥檒l be charged a fee to renew.
If you do not renew up to 6 months before or within one month after the renewal date, you鈥檒l also need to pay late payment fees.
You can make a 鈥榣ate renewal鈥 up to 6 months after the renewal date by paying 拢24 for each complete month that鈥檚 passed on top of the renewal fee.
Fees
Period | Fee |
---|---|
1st renewal | 拢70 |
2nd renewal | 拢90 |
3rd renewal | 拢110 |
4th renewal | 拢140 |
Late renewal (additional fee) | 拢24 per month |
You鈥檒l need to pay the full fee for each design you renew.
Renew online
You can renew your registered design online.
You鈥檒l also be able to renew trade marks and renew patents at the same time.
Renew by post
Fill in the design registration renewal form and post it. The address is on the form.
You鈥檒l get confirmation of your renewal when the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) receive your form and payment.
Restore a design after the late renewal deadline
If you missed the 6 month deadline for late renewal, you have a further 6 months to apply to 鈥榬estore鈥 your design.
You must give a good reason for why you missed the deadline.
Fill in the application to restore a design and post it, along with a written explanation of why you did not renew on time. The address is on the form.
Each application costs 拢120.
What happens next
You鈥檒l get a decision letter in the post. You will not get your money back if your application is turned down.
You鈥檒l be able to renew your design as normal by sending a design registration renewal form if IPO agrees your explanation is valid.
You鈥檒l get confirmation and your design will be published in the design journal once IPO receives your renewal payment.
If your application is rejected you have 2 months to appeal - the letter will tell you how.
