Type approval of B class divisions: UK21/F023

Adopted EU recommendation FIRE-074. UK approved recommendation on the type approval of "B" class divisions for fire integrity.

Question

In case of a type-approval (Module B), what kind of minimum evidence for approved non-combustible materials and all materials used in the construction and erection of 鈥淏鈥� class divisions are acceptable under the Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Regulations 2016 (as amended) to that date when issuance process of a Type examination certificate under the category UK/3.11b, either by:

  1. a valid test report in accordance with 2010 FTP-Code (MSC.307 (88)) Annex 1 Part 1 not older than 24 months prior the date of the performance of the fire resistance test); or
  2. a complete conformity assessment for non-combustible material under UK/3.13 for the used non-combustible materials?

Recommendation

Both a valid test report in compliance with Part 1 of the 2010 FTP Code and a valid Module B certificate (plus Module D, E or F) shall be required for non-combustible materials used in B-class divisions (UK/3.11b).

Module B certificates for item UK/3.11b shall state a limitation of use addressing that:

Non-combustible materials combined or installed for the making and setting up of this 鈥楤鈥� class division shall be approved under item UK/3.13 provisions.
