Application of the UK conformity mark: UK21/G025
Adopted EU recommendation GEN-049. UK approved recommendation on the correct application of the UK conformity mark (the 鈥淩ed Ensign鈥�).
Question
Some UK Approved Bodies are insisting that the UK conformity symbol of the 鈥淩ed Ensign鈥� affixed to marine equipment is displayed by enclosing it in a box outline and will not accept it otherwise.
Recommendation
It is not compulsory to apply / display the Red Ensign included in a box outline.
The correct and relevant symbol is the Red Ensign itself. It should be allowed to display the Red Ensign either with or without a box outline according to the manufacturer鈥檚 choice, providing that the proportions as outlined in Annex 5 of MSN 1974 as amended are respected.
