1. Overview
You can visit someone in an immigration removal centre or short-term holding facility.
Check with the centre:
- what the visiting hours are
- if you need to book an appointment
- what ID you need
- what items you’re allowed to take with you - you may be searched when you arrive
You may be able to contact someone in a removal centre by phone, email or video call. Contact the immigration removal centre to check.

Visit Brook House
Brook House is open 7 days a week, including bank holidays. You must book at least one day in advance, between 8am and 9pm.
Visiting hours are:
- Monday to Thursday, 2pm to 9pm
- Friday, 2:30pm to 9pm
- Saturday and Sunday, 2pm to 9pm
The centre is closed each day between 5:30pm and 6:30pm. Last admission at 4:15pm and 8:30pm
What you need to bring
When you visit, you’ll need to take proof of ID and proof of address.
Proof of ID
This can include any of the following:
- driving licence
- passport
- birth certificate
- ID card
- travel documents
Proof of address
This can include any of the following:
- utility bill
- bank statement
- recent letter with name and address
You cannot use a driving licence as proof of address.
Getting to Brook House
There’s a free bus service from Atlantic House to Brook House with a stop at Tinsley House. The pick-up point is in front of Atlantic House, just outside Gatwick South Terminal. You can ask about bus times or how to arrange a pick-up when you book your visit.
There’s a free on-site car park. If you use a sat nav, use the street name Perimeter Road South, not the postcode.

You must bring 1 type of photo ID (passport, driving licence, European Community identity card), or 2 of the following:
- birth or marriage certificate
- rail or bus pass with photo
- employer’s ID or student card
- young person’s proof of age card
- trade union membership card
- senior citizen travel pass issued by a local authority
- benefits book showing you receive welfare payments
- Home Office application registration card
There’s a free shuttle bus and taxi service from Durham bus or train station to Derwentside. Ask for further information when you book your visit.
