TCM1000300 - How to remove a child or young person from a pre-award claim

Step 1

On the ‘Function Menu�

  • select ‘Applicationâ€� on the toolbar
  • select ‘Capture Currentâ€� from the options available. You will be taken to the ‘Key Entry Dataâ€� screen
  • enter the customer’s NINO
  • select ‘OKâ€�
  • on the toolbar select ‘CHâ€�, you will be taken to the ‘Childrenâ€� screen.

Note: You will have to decide if you need to keep a record of the children you are removing. For example, if you are dealing with a complex or compliance case.

If you need to keep a record of the child or young person you are removing from the claim, go to Step 2.

If you don’t need to keep a record of the child or young person you are removing from the claim, go to Step 3.

Step 2

To keep a record of the child or young person you are removing from the claim

  • copy the screen

Note: On the keyboard this can be done by using the ‘Alt� and the ‘PrtSc� keys together to paste the image onto a Word document.

  • print the page and keep the print with the manual file
  • go to Step 3.

Step 3

Check for childcare

  • on the ‘Childrenâ€� screen highlight the relevant child
  • select ‘Editâ€� on the top toolbar
  • select ‘Amendâ€� from the options available, you will be taken to the ‘Amend Child Detailsâ€� screen
  • check if the ‘In Childcareâ€� box is ticked.

If the ‘In Childcare� box isn’t ticked 

  • select the ‘Cancelâ€� button
  • go to Step 4.

If the ‘In Childcare� box is ticked and you removing the only child on the claim

  • select ‘Cancelâ€�
  • go to Step 4.

If the ‘In Childcare� box is ticked and there are other children on the claim

  • update Application Notes that childcare charges applied to this child or contact the customer to obtain a revised amount for childcare charges if the guidance you have been following tells you to
  • select ‘Cancelâ€�
  • go to Step 4.

Step 4

To remove the child or young person from the claim

  • on the ‘Childrenâ€� screen highlight the relevant child or young person
  • select ‘Editâ€� on the top toolbar
  • select ‘Deleteâ€� from the options
  • select ‘yesâ€� in the message box
  • where you need to remove more than one child or young person from the claim repeat the above actions for each child or young person you wish to remove
  • where you remove all the children or young persons on the claim and there is a Child Benefit number present this must be deleted
  • select ‘Smâ€� on the toolbar
  • on the summary screen put a note in the ‘Application Notesâ€� field recording your action
  • select ‘OKâ€�
  • where the message ‘Application will be processed. Do you wish to Proceedâ€� is displayed, select the ‘Proceedâ€� button.
