ECSH33040 - Support available

You need to review your compliance check regularly to ensure that you have the right technical and specialist support to address the risks identified and complete your case.

Getting the support at the correct stage will help you avoid delay and will help to reduce the burden on the business. The below refers to technical support, for other areas of support you may need see ECSH32925 Health and safety and other support needed.

ÌýYou should use all available written resources, see ECSH 170000, as well as information available in:

  • the Knowledge Library
  • external guidance such as the , the International
  • EC Capability and Learning Zone
  • Kallidus training courses (link in ‘My Servicesâ€)
  • ECSH32935 Tactical and Information Packages (TIPs)

Single point of contact (SPOC) or Ringmaster

The first port of call should be to the single point of contact (SPOC) in your team for the appropriate sector, or Ringmaster (ECSH32530) if there is one for the campaign under which your case is packaged. You should also consult with your Team Leader.

Sector Specialist Team

The Sector Specialist Team is made up of Sector Specialists in each sector. If you have a query after using the above resources,Ìýemail the ECS Technical Capability and Learning DL ensuring your Team Leader is cc’d in.

The Sector Specialists may also set up drop-in sessions via Teams for queries to be asked and discussed amongst peers. These are more suitable for general or quick queries and less suitable for in-depth or very complicated discussions but can be an opportunity to raise a concern which can then be discussed one to one. See ECSH32545.

Advice Request (AR)

An AR, previously referred to as a Policy Advice Request (PAR), should be submitted when issues arise which cannot be resolved by consulting either guidance or colleagues and where the Sector Specialist has asked you to complete one. They will respond to you formally or discuss with Policy and then respond in line with Policy/HMRC Legal Group.

The Advice Request SWI can be found in the Knowledge Library. This links to the template, along with guidance on how to fill it out and where to send it to.

Policy will review the AR subject and allocate it to a policy advisor best placed to provide a response, this can include the Sector Pods.

HMRC Legal Group (formerly SOLS)

If it is decided thatÌýHMRC Legal Group advice is needed regarding a technical point in an AR, ECS Policy will update the Sector Specialist on this and put in a request for advice to HMRC Legal Group.

The Advice Request SWI can be found in the Knowledge Library.Ìý

Additionally,ÌýHMRC Legal Group's Criminal Law Advisory team can provide case specific advice, for example reviewing documentation and evidence to support a sanction. Please speak to your line manager and Grade 7, who will decide whether additional support is needed.
