Remove information from Companies House

How to remove information that should never have been delivered to Companies House.

We鈥檒l remove information from the Companies House register where we鈥檙e satisfied that:

  • information in a document is false or misleading
  • a document has been sent without the company鈥檚 knowledge or authorisation
  • a document records a transaction that never occurred

Contact Companies House if you believe a filing:

  • has been made relating to your company without its authority
  • reflects a transaction that did not happen

You鈥檒l need to give details of the information you want us to remove. You should include as much information and supporting evidence as possible to help us decide whether to remove the information.

We鈥檒l consider each case on its merits.聽

Disputes

If there鈥檚 a disagreement between people in a company, you should try to resolve it between yourselves before contacting Companies House. For example, 2 people who insist they鈥檙e the only director.

Companies House will only consider disputes with evidence. For example, an agreement, contract, board meeting minutes, or other documentation that could help us reach a decision.

You鈥檒l need to email details of the dispute to [email protected].

In some dispute cases, Companies House may not be able to reach a decision.

In these circumstances, you might wish to consider applying to the court for a 鈥榙eclaration of fact鈥. For example, an order confirming that person A is the director and person B is not.聽聽

Companies House will act on that declaration to remove false or unauthorised information.

Complex facts

We might suggest that the matter is best determined by the court if:

  • you wish to remove documents recording a complex transaction
  • it鈥檚 not clear if a transaction was legal
  • the removal may affect third party rights, for example, investors

鲍苍诲别谤听section 1096 of the Companies Act 2006, we鈥檒l remove information from the register if the court declares that it:

  • is invalid
  • is ineffective
  • has been done without the authority of the company
  • is not factually accurate
  • is derived from something forged or not factually accurate

We鈥檒l work with you to seek to agree the form of any declaration or order.
