If you鈥檙e an EU, EEA, or Swiss citizen, you can continue to use your passport or national identity card to prove you can work in the UK until 30 June 2021.

From 1 July 2021, new rules apply. You will need to provide evidence of lawful immigration status in the UK.

Proving your right to work from 1 July 2021

From 1 July 2021, you鈥檒l no longer be able to use your passport or national identity card to prove your right to work in the UK unless you鈥檙e an Irish citizen.

You鈥檒l need to use the online right to work checking service.

You鈥檒l need to provide your employer with:

• your share code
• your date of birth

You can use the online right to work checking service if you have a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account. You should make sure your UK Visas and Immigration account details are up to date.

You can also use the online right to work checking service if you have a biometric residence permit or card. You can use the BRP for 18 months after the expiry date printed on the card.

Or you can use original documents to prove your right to work if you don鈥檛 have a UK immigration status that you can share digitally. This may be an endorsement, visa or vignette in your current passport.

Irish citizens

You can continue to use your passport or passport card to prove your right to work from 1 July 2021.

What you need to do by 30 June 2021

If you started living in the UK by 31 December 2020, you can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme. The deadline for applying is 30 June 2021.

If you鈥檝e already applied to the EU Settlement Scheme, or already have a UKVI account, check your UK Visas and Immigration account details are up to date.
