Get access to CHIEF for transitional simplified procedures
You鈥檒l need to get access to CHIEF if you鈥檙e making declarations yourself for goods imported using transitional simplified procedures after Brexit.
After Brexit, if you鈥檙e making declarations yourself for imported goods using transitional simplified procedures you will need to:
- buy third party software to make your declarations - this software will work with HMRC鈥檚 Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system
- get a CHIEF badge
You only need to do this if you鈥檙e:
- importing standard goods and you want to submit supplementary declarations yourself before 6 August 2020
- importing controlled goods and you want to submit simplified frontier declarations and supplementary declarations yourself
- not using someone else to make your declarations
If you鈥檙e not using transitional simplified procedures and making import declarations yourself - you need to use form C1800.
Getting a CHIEF badge
There are 2 types of CHIEF badges:
- a DTI badge (direct trader input) badge - you must have this if you鈥檙e importing controlled goods (so you can make both simplified frontier declarations and supplementary declarations)
- an email badge - you can use this if you鈥檙e only making supplementary declarations
DTI badges
To activate your badge you鈥檒l need to provide:
- your EORI number that starts with GB
- your business鈥檚 name and address
- the community system provider that issued your badge
- your DTI badge number
You must use the same business details that you used when you registered for transitional simplified procedures.
