Comparing the year to end June 2015 with the year to end June 2014:
- motor vehicle traffic increased by 2.3% to a new high of 314.6 billion vehicle miles 鈥� this provisional figure is slightly (0.1%) above the pre-recession peak for the year ending September 2007.
- traffic levels increased across all vehicle types and road classifications, but at varying rates
- Light Goods Vehicle (LGV) traffic continued to show the fastest increase of any vehicle type, rising by 6.3% to a new peak of 46.3 billion vehicle miles
- car traffic increased by 1.7% to 246.6 billion vehicle miles
- minor rural road traffic increased the most of any road type, rising 5.5% to reach 44.8 billion vehicle miles
- motorway traffic increased by 1.8%, reaching 65 billion vehicle miles despite rising by 1.9%, traffic on urban roads remains 3.9% below the level estimated for the year ending September 2007.
