From December 2023, we have discontinued聽PORT0501聽from the quarterly port freight statistics聽due to low user engagement.聽PORT0501聽presented tonnage and unit totals at the national level as indices. National level tonnage and unit totals will remain available in聽PORT0502.

When comparing January to March 2024 with January to March 2023 through UK major ports:聽
- total freight tonnage decreased by 6% to 103.0 million tonnes聽
- inward tonnage decreased by 3% to 69.6 million tonnes聽
- outward tonnage decreased by 10% to 33.4 million tonnes聽
- total volume of unitised traffic increased by 3% to 4.6 million units聽
- inward units increased by 4% to 2.5 million units聽
- outward units increased by 2% to 2.1 million units聽
When comparing the rolling year to March 2024 with March 2023 through UK major ports:聽
- total tonnage decreased by 6% to 419.8 million tonnes聽
- total volume of unitised traffic increased by 3% to 20.9 million units
