The latest national statistics on the 2nd provisional outturn figures of local authority capital expenditure and receipts in the financial year April 2009 to March 2010 was released on 2 September 2010 under arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The latest statistics release includes data from 2005-06 to 2009-10 and updates those statistics previously released on 10 September 2009 and 29 June 2010.

The main points from this release are:

  • the underlying trend in capital expenditure shows an increase of 8% from 2008-09 to 2009-10 to 拢21.3 billion
  • capital expenditure has risen by 28% in the last 4 years, nearly 16% in real terms
  • capital receipts remain well below the 2007 to 2008 level at 拢1.4 billion; this reflects a drop in the sale of assets by local authorities
