This is a summary of the National Statistics on the outcomes of completed Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) Work Capability Assessments (WCA).
The publication covers information on both initial and repeat聽ESA聽assessments in Great Britain.
This release includes:
- Outcomes of initial and repeat聽WCAs聽to end of June 2023
- Outcomes of completed Incapacity Benefit (IB) reassessments up to June 2023
- Completed initial WCA appeal outcomes for ESA claims with a start date to September 2022
- End to end initial聽ESA聽claim clearance times to end of June 2023
- Mandatory Reconsideration (MR) information to end of October 2023:

Universal Credit (UC) was rolled out to every Jobcentre across Great Britain by December 2018 and has now replaced income-related聽ESA聽for most new claimants. This has greatly changed the volume and composition of new claims to聽ESA.
Note: information based on Date of Decision is reported up to 6 months prior to the publication, or 9 months where it is based on the date of claim. This allows time for most customer journeys to be completed, and the information presented to accurately reflect this journey.
