These statistics covering childcare in England are made up of:

  • key findings, charts and tables in PDF and Word format
  • tables, charts and individual provider-level data in Excel format

The data covers:

  • registered childcare providers and places as at 31 March 2015
  • movement in childcare sector between 31 August 2014 and 31 March 2015
  • most recent inspection outcomes as at 31 March 2015
  • provisional data for inspections completed between 1 January 2015 and 31 March 2015
  • revised data for inspections completed between 1 September 2014 and 31 December 2014

This release has been introduced following consultation with users and combines the 鈥楨arly years providers and places鈥� and the 鈥楨arly Years inspections and outcomes鈥� statistical releases. Read the consultation response.

Official statistics are produced impartially and free from political influence.

  1. Charts and tables excel file: Table 7 updated due to error in regional totals for East Midlands and South East England.

  2. Updated to correct a minor error on table 15 in Childcare inspections and outcomes as at 31 March 2015: charts and tables. The lookup for the sub-judgement "how well the provision meets the needs of the children who attend" was incorrectly looking up and duplicating the overall effectiveness judgment. This has now been fixed and all key findings remain unchanged.

  3. Updated to correct a minor error in Table 12 in Childcare inspections and outcomes as at 31 March 2015: charts and tables. Thirteen inspections were incorrectly included and these have been removed. No other tables are affected and the key findings remain unchanged.
