On 7 November 2014, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) for Walney extension offshore wind farm. The pre-application, examination and DCO documents can be found on the website.

The DCO authorises DONG Energy Walney extension (UK) limited to construct and operate an offshore generating station up to a maximum capacity of 750 MW, it is an extension to the north-west of the existing Walney I and II offshore wind farms, in the Irish sea. The project is located approximately 19km west of the Cumbrian coast, 35km North-West of the Lancastrian coast and 31km South-East of the Isle of Man. The development could comprise of up to:

• 207 wind turbine generators
• 3 offshore substations
• 5 export cable systems

On 26 April 2017 and 26 July 2017 the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) received requests from DONG Energy Walney Extension (UK) Limited to vary the Deemed Marine Licences (DMLs) contained within Schedule 9 (generation assets) and Schedule 10 (transmission assets) of the Walney Extension Offshore wind Farm Order 2014. The MMO鈥檚 decision was to vary the DMLs as detailed in the Notice of Variation, effective from 8 August 2017.

On 12 April 2018 the MMO received a request from Walney Extension Limited to vary the Deemed Marine Licences (DMLs) contained within Schedule 10 (transmission assets) of the Walney Extension Offshore wind Farm Order 2014. The request was to add wording to permit beach reinstatement works.

In addition to this proposed change, following discussions with Walney Extension Ltd, the MMO have included an amendment to update the name of the 鈥渦ndertaker鈥� from 鈥楧ONG Energy Walney Extension (UK) Limited鈥� to 鈥榃alney Extension Limited鈥� within Schedule 9 and Schedule 10.

The MMO鈥檚 decision was to vary the DMLs as detailed in the Notice of Variation, effective from 24 May 2018.
