Modern society relies on critical minerals 鈥 from phones to wind turbines, from cars to fighter jets. A new cohort of critical minerals are becoming even more important as we seek to bolster our energy security and domestic industrial resilience 鈥 in light of Russia鈥檚 illegal invasion of Ukraine 鈥 and as we move away from volatile, expensive fossil fuels.
鈥楻esilience for the future: the UK鈥檚 critical minerals strategy鈥 sets out the government鈥檚 plans for improving the resilience of critical minerals supply chains and increasing our security of supply.
Through this strategy, the UK will:
- accelerate growth of the UK鈥檚 domestic capabilities
- collaborate with international partners
- enhance international markets to make them more responsive, transparent and responsible
Since publishing the strategy in July 2022, government has been engaging with industry and international partners to deliver on the stated ambitions.
In March 2023, government published the 鈥Critical minerals refresh: delivering resilience in a changing global environment鈥 in light of a changing global landscape and the sharpening of geopolitical competition and to highlight its progress and upcoming delivery milestones.
