This toolkit is designed to support you with your strategy development process. It will give you ideas for each stage of the work: both on what to do and on how to do it.

It is intended to help NHS providers develop a strong strategy for your trust, but it isn鈥檛 prescriptive.

Monitor鈥檚 Strategy development toolkit contains:

  • guidance on each stage of developing a strategy
  • illustrations of possible analyses
  • case studies of strategic changes that some NHS providers have already implemented

How NHS providers are using the toolkit

The toolkit has been developed with 5 NHS foundation trust 鈥榯est sites鈥�. In this short video the 5 trusts share their reflections on strategy development and the toolkit.

Developing strategy: what every trust board member should know

Alongside the toolkit, Monitor has published guidance which explains the role of NHS foundation trust board members in developing sound strategies.
