Register a research and development trial under SR2024 No 1

1. Check you can meet the requirements

First, read the standard rules and the generic risk assessment for SR2024 No 1: research and development at a Part A(1) installation to check that you can meet the requirements.

2. Vary (change) your permit to include the standard rules

If you can meet the requirements, you need to vary your permit to include SR2024 No 1: research and development at a Part A(1) installation.

As part of this you need to pay the variation fee, which is:

  • 拢980 for research and development at installations that are
  • 拢720 for other research and development

3. Register your trial

Once you have varied your permit, you need to to tell the Environment Agency when you want to carry out a research and development trial in line with these standard rules.

Schedule 1 in the standard rules explains the information you鈥檒l need to provide.

4. Pay the fee for registering your trial

You then need to pay the 拢780 fee for registering your trial as soon as you have sent your information.

The Environment Agency cannot review your information until you have done this.

Pay in one of the following ways.

4.1 Electronic transfer (BACS)

For electronic transfer, you will need to use the following information to make your payment:

  • company name: Environment Agency
  • company address: SSCL (Environment Agency), PO Box 797, Newport Gwent, NP10 8FZ
  • bank: RBS/NatWest
  • address: London Corporate Service Centre, CPB Services, 2nd Floor, 280 Bishopsgate, London EC2M 4RB
  • sort code: 60鈥�70鈥�80
  • account number: 10014411
  • account name: EA RECEIPTS
  • payment reference number: PSCAPPXXXXXYYY

You need to create your own reference number. It should:

  • begin with PSCAPPINST (installation) to reflect the facility type
  • include the first five letters of the company name (replacing the Xs in the example reference number)
  • include a unique numerical identifier (replacing the Ys in the example reference number)

The reference number that you supply will appear on our bank statements.

You should also email your payment details and reference number to [email protected].

If you are making your payment from outside the United Kingdom, it must be in sterling. Our IBAN number is GB23NWBK60708010014411 and our SWIFTBIC number is NWBKGB2L.

If you do not quote your reference number, there may be a delay in processing your payment and application.

4.2 Credit or debit cards

If want to pay by credit or debit card, contact Environment Agency general enquiries.

We can only accept payments by Visa, MasterCard or Maestro card.

4.3 Cheque

If you want to pay by cheque, you should make cheques payable to 鈥楨nvironment Agency鈥� and make sure they have 鈥楢/c payee鈥� written across them if it is not already printed on.

Please write the name of your company and application reference number on the back of your cheque. We will not accept cheques with a future date on them.

5. After you register and pay

The Environment Agency will assess your information and check that you have paid. They will email you to tell you the outcome.

You should get a response within 14 days.

Do not begin your trial until you have received the Environment Agency鈥檚 decision.

6. Get advice

Speak to your local site officer if:

  • if your proposal is complex
  • you want to make sure your notification contains the correct information
