The Department for Transport鈥檚 speed limit appraisal tool will help councils to assess the full costs and benefits of any proposed local speed limit schemes. As well as casualties and other traffic effects, we have made particular efforts to build into the tool effects that cannot be monetised, such as those that enhance quality of life.
To install the tool, run the installation file 鈥楽LAT_Installation_V1.0.3.exe鈥� and follow the presented dialogues:
You may need administrator rights, depending on your local IT rules and regulations. If you experience problems when trying to install the tool, you should refer in the first instance to your IT support. Full details are in our 鈥楽peed limit appraisal tool user guidance鈥�.
If you receive the message 鈥楾his installation requires Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7鈥� you must run it in compatibility mode for Windows 7. This can be accessed by right clicking on the installer, opening the 鈥楶roperties鈥� window, checking the tick box labelled 鈥楻un this program in compatibility mode for鈥� and selecting 鈥榃indows 7鈥� from the list. You can then press 鈥極K鈥� and run the installer again.

This example data includes populated output files and input data as Excel spreadsheets. Unzip the example data file into the tool鈥檚 studies area (standard location: C:\Speed_Limit_Appraisal_Studies).
