Template A. Lower chance result 鈥 Down鈥檚 syndrome screening only

Dear (name),

Re: Your non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) screening result

You recently had NIPT to screen for Down鈥檚 syndrome. This has shown that your baby has a lower chance result for Down鈥檚 syndrome.

A lower chance result does not mean that there is no chance at all that the baby has Down鈥檚 syndrome, just that it is very unlikely. We do not offer further testing following a lower chance NIPT result.

NIPT is a more accurate screening test than the combined or quadruple test, and it will give a correct result for most women who choose to have it.

If you have any questions about your NIPT result, you can contact me using the details below.

You can find more information about antenatal screening for this condition, including details of parent support organisations, at www.nhs.uk/depscreening.

Template B. Lower chance result 鈥 Edwards鈥 syndrome and Patau鈥檚 syndrome screening

Dear (name),

Re: Your non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) screening results

You recently had NIPT to screen for Edwards鈥 syndrome and Patau鈥檚 syndrome. This has shown that your baby has a:

  • lower chance result for Edwards鈥 syndrome
  • lower chance result for Patau鈥檚 syndrome

A lower chance result does not mean that there is no chance at all that the baby has Edwards鈥 syndrome or Patau鈥檚 syndrome, just that it is unlikely. We do not offer further testing following a lower chance NIPT result.

NIPT is a more accurate screening test than the combined or quadruple test, and it will give a correct result for most women who choose to have it.

If you have any questions about your NIPT results, you can contact me using the details below.
