Response to ICIBI's report on country of origin information, June 2022
Published 19 October 2022
Introduction
The Home Office thanks the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration (ICIBI) for this report, as well as the Independent Advisory Group on Country Information (IAGCI) and the individual reviewers for the positive overall nature of the reviews and the constructive comments and feedback to enable further improvement.
Response to recommendations
1. There are no recommendations beyond those in the individual reviews of the six Country Policy and Information Notes (CPINs) and country of origin responses chosen by the IAGCI. The CPINs reviewed are listed in the ICIBI鈥檚 report. The reviews were generally complimentary without contentious suggestions or comments.
1.1 As the ICIBI acknowledges, we have accepted the majority of the reviewers鈥 recommendations. We have updated our CPINs accordingly.
1.2 Where we have not accepted an individual reviewer鈥檚 recommendation 鈥 for example where the information suggested is too old to use, not publicly accessible or not relevant to the specific topic - we clearly state our reasons for not doing so. We also appreciate the ICIBI鈥檚 acknowledgement that there is a balance to be struck between depth of information and brevity (bearing in mind these are tools to support operational decision making). We continue to welcome the IAGCI鈥檚 input into finding that right balance.
