In April 2018, the Social Security Advisory Committee 鈥� in partnership with the Institute for Government 鈥� brought together former ministers, civil servants, academics, parliamentarians and other advisers to discuss progress over the past 30 years in reforming working-age social security.

This paper considers what lessons can be learnt for future reform from what has worked 鈥� and what has not worked so well 鈥� in the past.
