It sets out several payment approaches that Monitor and NHS England want to develop further with NHS providers and commissioners, including those in social and primary care.
Improvements to the NHS payment system will be critical to developing and delivering the new care models described in the 鈥樷��.
The payment models will help the NHS to develop new models of care that patients need, to support:
- development of integrated care approaches such as multi-speciality community providers and primary and acute care systems
- development of urgent and emergency care networks
- high quality elective care and specialised services though a mix of payment approaches
- parity of esteem for mental health services
The paper also sets out the improvements needed to the information building blocks underpinning the NHS payment system.
