This report examines how the UK research base compares internationally, and what trends may affect the UK鈥檚 future standing as a world-leading research economy.

It is the eighth report commissioned by BIS to assess the performance of the UK compared with 7 other research-intensive countries (Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the US). Where data is available, it also makes comparisons with the EU27, OECD member countries鈥� groups, and 3 other fast growing nations (Brazil, Russia and India).
