The 2015 UK Aid Strategy set out the government鈥檚 global approach to defeat poverty, tackle instability and create prosperity in developing countries. FCO ODA programmes work closely with Department for International Development (DFID) funded activity.

The FCO鈥檚 ODA programmes contentrate on the strategic objectives of strengthening global peace, security and governance, and promoting global prosperity. The FCO鈥檚 departmental core budget allocates ODA funding. This is reviewed annually based on Department鈥檚 policy priorities and overall budget. We take a risk-based approach: a lot of the aid is delivered in high risk environments, addressing problems where tried and tested solutions do not exist. We stop and change quickly programmes which don鈥檛 work, and identify the lessons learned for the FCO.

The FCO also has an important role in delivering programmes funded by 2 government-wide funds:

• Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF)
• Prosperity Fund
