Explains the government鈥檚 responses to the Low Pay Commission (LPC) recommendations. The LPC has recommended that the hourly rates for the national minimum wage (NMW) should increase in October 2013:
- the rate for adults should increase from 拢6.19 to 拢6.31
- the development rate which covers workers aged 18-20 years old should increase from 拢4.98 to 拢5.03
- the rate for 16-17 year olds should increase from 拢3.68 to 拢3.72
The LPC recommended that the apprentice rate should remain at 拢2.65.
The government accepts most of these recommendations but explains why the apprentice rate should also be increased by 3 pence from 1 October 2013.
