Ship Recycling Framework

Updated 21 May 2025

The DE&S Defence Recycling Disposal Team (DRDT) is seeking expressions of interest from ship recyclers listed on the EU and UK-approved ship recycling facilities list to participate in a restricted, multi-company Ship Recycling Framework currently under development.

This framework will be operational for an initial 4-year period, with an estimated 2 to 6 ships available for recycling in the first year. The first set of ships earmarked for recycling will be located at HM Naval Base Portsmouth and will be marketed from there.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) will not cover the recycling costs of any vessels included in this framework.

If you wish to be considered for inclusion in the framework, please complete this no later than Thursday 5 June 2025.

For successful bidders admitted to the framework, site viewings are scheduled for late Summer 2025. Specific dates and times will be detailed in the initial Invitation To Tender(s) (ITT) issued under the framework. Bidders are advised to refrain from making any travel arrangements until this notification is received.

Publication of this notice does not signify a binding commitment by the Secretary of State for Defence, 鈥淭he Authority,鈥 to proceed with a sale. The sale of any ships may be subject to discontinuation at any point.
