Sustainable development is defined in Highway鈥檚 England鈥檚 licence as 鈥渆ncouraging economic growth while protecting the environment and improving safety and quality of life for current and future generations鈥�.

This strategy is designed to communicate the company鈥檚 approach and priorities for sustainable development to its key stakeholders. Highway鈥檚 England is keen to ensure its action in the future will further reduce the impact of its activities seeking a long-term and sustainable benefit to the environment and the communities it serves.

The action plan describes how Highways England will progress the aspirations of their Sustainable Development and Environment Strategies. It describes actions that will enable the company to deliver sustainable development and to help protect and improve the environment.
