On 20 July the government published its consultation on 鈥楢 new pro-competitive regime for digital markets鈥. The consultation builds on the advice of the CMA鈥檚 Digital Markets Taskforce, as well as the recommendations of the Digital Competition Expert Panel, chaired by Professor Jason Furman.
The consultation proposes the establishment in legislation of a 鈥楧igital Markets Unit (DMU)鈥 to oversee the regime. The DMU was created in non-statutory form within the CMA in April 2021 and is assisting the government with preparations for the new regime.
This is the CMA鈥檚 response to the government鈥檚 consultation. It expresses our strong support for the government鈥檚 proposals and our commitment to providing all practical support as the work to develop the regime progresses.
The response is published alongside our separate response to the government鈥檚 consultation on Reforming Competition and Consumer Policy.
