Decision made by the Charity Commission on 5 February 2004.

The commission considered an application from Good News for Israel for registration as a charity. It concluded that as the organisation had a purpose to promote a particular religious doctrine, if was not possible to prove it gave public benefit and so could not be registered as a charity.

This decision is significant because it involves the presumption that religious purposes bring public benefit (which has since been removed in later Charities Acts).
