Community Eye Care Pathway

The Local Optical Committee Support Unit (LOCSU) has developed a community for people with learning disabilities.

The pathway has been developed in conjunction with SeeAbility and is based on established, successful, learning disability services provided by community optometrists in a number of areas in England. The pathway gives Local Optical Committees and Local Eye Health Networks the basis for a proposal to improve the way eye care for people with learning disabilities is delivered in their local area.

The pathway consists of:

  • a longer appointment which can be split into 2 or more visits if needed
  • the use of SeeAbility鈥檚 and
  • participating optometrists and dispensing opticians receiving training in providing eye care to people with learning disabilities

The pathway is currently provided in the following areas:

  • Greater Manchester
  • Cheshire and Merseyside
  • Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield and North Durham
  • London Borough of Sutton
  • London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
  • London Borough of Bexley

There are further details about these 6 services on . There is more information about the pathway on .
