The UK is a party to the United Nations鈥 Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants (POPs). POPs are substances that persist in the environment, accumulate in living organisms and pose a risk to our health and the environment.

POPs can be transported by air, water, or migratory species across international borders, reaching regions where they have never been produced or used.

The Stockholm Convention鈥檚聽POPs聽Review Committee (POPRC) has requested comments on the draft risk profiles (Annex E) for 3 substances:

  • Chlorinated paraffins with carbon chain lengths in the range C14 to C17 and chlorination levels at or exceeding 45 per cent chlorine by weight (sometimes known as medium chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs))
  • Long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs), their salts and related compounds
  • Chlorpyrifos

POPRC has also requested comments on the draft risk management evaluations (Annex F) for 2 substances:

  • Dechlorane Plus
  • UV-328
