On October 11 the government announced its ambition to increase the proportion of public sector leaders from an ethnic minority background, so that the public sector workforce is fully representative of the communities it serves.

The Department for Education (DfE) also recognises the importance of a diverse teaching workforce.

Approximately a quarter of school age students come from an ethnic minority background, and a more representative teaching workforce will ensure schools are inclusive and cohesive environments.

DfE is committed to addressing the issue of underrepresentation in the teaching workforce.

A number of groups from across the schools sector are joining this commitment by co-signing the DfE鈥檚 statement of intent, and have set out activity they will seek to deliver in the coming months in the document 鈥楥ommitments and activity to be delivered by the statement of intent co-signatories鈥�.
