CoRWM recognises that neither spent fuel or plutonium have been designated as being radioactive wastes. However, given that it is possible that these materials may be designated as being radioactive wastes in the future CoRWM maintains an interest in the context of robust interim storage.

NDA鈥檚 stategy remains to reprocess all Magnox fuel but it is examining a range of 鈥榯olerable end states鈥�, all of which aim to fully empty the Magnox stations of fuel.

CoRWM is reassured by the 鈥榙efence in depth鈥� approach being taken by the NDA, and by the openness with which potential problems are being confronted and planned for.
