This guidance provides an overview of the Competition and Markets Authority鈥檚 (CMA) role, functions and powers in relation to consumer protection. It summarises:

  • the CMA鈥檚 consumer protection powers, including its direct enforcement powers, civil court-based enforcement powers, criminal powers and investigatory powers

  • the CMA鈥檚 role and engagement in the consumer protection landscape both domestically and internationally聽

  • the CMA鈥檚 approach to the enforcement of consumer protection law
