The DfE has launched a consultation on regulations enabling local authority land to be transferred more quickly when a maintained school becomes an academy.

The consultation will run for 10 weeks from today until 18 January 2012.

Background

When a maintained school become an academy their land is transferred, under lease, to the new academy鈥檚 trust. These new regulations enable the Secretary of State to get the required information for that transfer from local authorities.聽They do not give him any new powers to force聽local authorities聽to transfer land, or remove any rights from local authorities.
