Natural England is developing a new strategy which supersedes this document. Ahead of publication in autumn 2025, please refer to our聽Strategic Direction - Recovering Nature for Growth, Health and Security聽which launched on 2 April 2025.

This sets out the scope for the new strategy, the organisation鈥檚 priorities and prepares staff and stakeholders for the changes in how Natural England operates, the work it does and the services it provides.

The government鈥檚 ambition is for England to be a great place to live, with a healthy natural environment on land and at sea that benefits people and the economy. This strategy sets out Natural England鈥檚 thinking about what we need to do differently and how we need to work with others, to better deliver this shared ambition.

The strategy鈥檚 3 guiding principles are to:

  • create resilient landscapes and seas
  • put people at the heart of the environment
  • grow natural capital
