How to apply to extend a caveat on a grant of representation

Who can apply

You can apply to聽extend your聽stop on a probate application聽(also known as a caveat) if you鈥檙e:

  • over 18
  • the person who entered the original caveat
  • a probate practitioner appointed by the person who entered the original caveat

Fee

It costs 拢3 to extend an application for 6 months.

How to apply

If you鈥檙e the person who entered the original caveat, you must apply by post.

If you鈥檙e a probate practitioner, you can apply by post or email.

You can only apply if the original caveat is due to expire within a month.

Apply by post

  1. Download the form.
  2. Fill in all the sections.
  3. Print the form.
  4. Sign and date the form.
  5. Pay the 拢3 application fee by sending a cheque payable to 鈥楬M Courts and Tribunals Service鈥� with your form.
  6. Send the completed form to:

Apply by email as a probate practitioner

  1. Download the form.
  2. Fill in all the sections.
  3. Sign and date the form.
  4. Pay the 拢3 application fee using Payment by Account.
